We’d like to applaud Rick Perry for dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination. Although Perry seems like a decent person, he really had no chance to win among a fairly deep field of candidates.
Perry’s campaign had been unable to pay its staffers. He did not qualify for the primetime round of the upcoming CNN debate. Many voters were unable to forget Perry’s infamous “oops” moment during the 2008 campaign.
Sometimes the writing is on the proverbial wall.
People have different reasons for running for office, and winning an election isn’t always the foremost motivation.
Perry was the first to drop out but he won’t be the last. Let’s hope that some of the other fringe candidates have the courage, humility, and sense to drop out soon.
